15 years ago today Final Fantasy 7 was released in North America. In my opinion, its one of the best games ever made. To this day when i play it, it captures my attention just like it did that very first rainy night when i popped it in my Playstation. The characters are still some of my favorites from any game. Cloud was the perfect calm and cool, yet badass hero. Sephiroth was the immensely powerful and insane villain. But you couldnt help wanting to be him or at least have him on your side sometimes. The music is classic. The graphics for the time were incredible. The atmosphere of the world just drew you in immediately. The story was deep and engaging. And the game play was so good, it kept you coming back hour after hour. I could almost feel my Buster Sword slice through an enemy. I think FF7 was one of the main things responsible for bringing gaming into the mainstream. I remember guys who had never played a game in their life talking about what level they were, or my best friends little sister staying up all night with us, waiting patiently to get her hands on the controller. Truly a masterpiece. These are a few of my favorite images ripped from the game disc.
When FF7 came out, i heard from a guy at my game store that you could use a device called a Gameshark on the PlayStation to do things to the game that you couldn’t normally do, like infinite health and money, or even get back into places that were off access later in the game. Once i started looking codes for that device up, i saw you could have Aries in your party after she had died, and much to my extreme happiness, you could have Sephiroth in your party.
He was one of my all time favorite game characters so my goal was to play the whole game with him in my party. That proved to be challenging because having him would glitch certain parts of the game. So i had to take him out at certain places and then put him back in. It took forever, but i finally made it. The thing i wanted to see most, was at the very very end when you face down Sephiroth, one on one. But i wanted to replace Cloud with the Sephiroth in my party. I don’t know why, but i had to see them face each other. lol I was so excited, i taped it on my VHS player. :p Years later i was able to do it again on an emulator on the PC.
Shinra Headquarters, Final Fantasy 7. Other than Rapture, Midgar was probably my favorite place in any game. This was taken directly from the PC version.
